Soft Pastels Course

This is an eight-week course, starting on Tuesday, 29th October from 10-12pm at Gibson Street. 
In this course you’ll be able to develop your own style of painting, using techniques and suggested materials from the weekly workshops. 
Over the course we will explore ways of creating beautiful paintings from reference photos, sketches and small fast colour thumbnails. 
We will look in depth at foregrounds, intimate and expansive landscapes, bringing structures into a painting, still life and florals.  Encompassing composition and design, understanding underpainting, tonal value and colour theory. 
All abilities, from new to pastels, beginners and advanced painters are welcome.  A donation of £48 total (working out at £6 per session) payable before or at the first class.

Watercolours Course

This eight-week watercolour course begins on Tuesday, 29th October from 1-3pm at Front Street. 
It is open to all abilities and covers a variety of subjects and themes painting on paper and on canvas to help you find your own style and favoured materials. 
We will go on a journey of exploration using a variety of methods over the course.  Beginning with drawing and sketching from still life, using photographs as inspiration for composition, creating texture and colour combinations and the use of different mediums to enhance watercolours. 
A donation of £48 total (working out at £6 per session) payable before or at the first class is requested.

Ceramics Beginners Course

This course is run by ceramicist Kirsty Adams.  It begins on Monday 4th November 10 – 12pm at our Gibson Street studio, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.  

The course will run for 7 weeks and we ask for a donation of £10 per session to cover the cost of the clay and firing of the works of art which you will produce.  

No previous knowledge, or experience, of working with clay is required.

Ceramics Intermediate Course

This course is run by ceramicist Kirsty Adams.  It begins on Monday 4th November 1 – 3pm at our Gibson Street studio, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.  
The course will run for 7 weeks and we ask for a donation of £10 per session to cover the cost of the clay and firing of the works of art which you will produce.  
For those who have a basic knowledge of working with clay.

Photography Intermediate Course

This course is run by local photographer Ivor Rackham and begins on Thursday 31st October 2.30—4.30pm at  our Gibson Street studio, Newbiggin by the Sea.  The course will run for 8 weeks and we ask for a donation of £6 per session. 
This course requires that you have a basic understanding of metering, the exposure triangle and focusing and use of the camera in either aperture priority or manual mode.

Art for All Classes

From Wednesday 4th September (1 – 3 PM), Gary Simpson will be running eight-weeks of Art for All classes held at Front Street. 
Gary will be following the successful format used by Keith and Ted; tutored freestyle painting classes.
In these classes, participants will be painting (or drawing) a subject of their own choosing, in their preferred medium and Gary will be on hand to provide expert advice and guidance.

Acrylics and Watercolours Course

From Tuesday 17th September (1 – 3 PM), celebrated artist Christine Cave, will be running a six-week watercolours and acrylics course held at Front Street.
In these afternoon classes Christine will be exploring the characteristics of the acrylic and watercolour media, investigating techniques applicable to each media, as well as developing composition and design.
A donation of £6 per class is requested.

Textile Workshops

From Sunday 25th August, Denise Howe will be running at Front Street a series of four 3-hour workshops (1-4pm) over seven weeks.

Each class will give an introduction to the materials and the correct use of them, give an outline of the aims (with samples), step-by-step instruction of technique and, of course, practical experience for yourselves.  At the end of the workshop, you will have a fantastic end-product to take home with you.

The workshops are entitled Dorset Buttons, Stencilled Tote Bag, English Patchwork and Sashiko.

A donation of £8 per workshop is requested.

Textile Course

From Thursday 22nd August, Denise Howe will be running a six-week Textile course (10-12am)

Each class will give an introduction to the materials and the correct use of them, give an outline of the aims (with samples), step-by-step instruction of technique and, of course, practical experience for yourselves.  At the end of the workshop, you will have a fantastic end-product to take home with you.

The first course will start with “Felt Flower Corsage” with subsequent sessions being on one of the 12, or more, classes which she runs, based on the preference of the attendees.

Cultural Talk and Presentation

On Saturday 7th September, from 7 pm,  Denise Howe will be giving a talk on “Japan Experience – Culture & Lifestyle” and on Saturday 28th September (again 7pm) Denise’s second talk will be on the subject of “Our Talented North East”.

Pastels Course

From Tuesday 17th September, Christine Cave will be running an 8-week Pastels course (10-12am)

Christine will use the themes of land, sea and sky to introduce the medium, to develop composition & design and to instruct in techniques.
